Con O’Neill was director Nick Moran’s must-have choice to be Kevin’s father, following his highly acclaimed performances in both the stage play and the film of TELSTAR.

“In fact when I first met Nick he was my understudy in BLOOD BROTHERS in the West End. The tables have been turned a bit since then. But I was impressed from the very beginning by his energy and his ability to do so many things. Even then, as well as acting, he had writing projects on the go and was involved in all sorts of things.”

Con was also impressed by the book and the script of THE KID. “I was very moved by both. The book tells it like and is very visual. I think this is a now very visual film. So we have the right man directing it. My character Dennis is a chronic alcoholic. He is very nervous, very shy, and can be very violent. He’s lost and broken, and he’s had an awful life, but that doesn’t endorse what he does. I can identify with him in certain ways. I’m not a violent man, but I do have anger, I do have rage.”

THE KID’s strong cast also made Con eager to be part of the film. “The only time you usually get a cast list like this is if you are doing a really big play.”

O’Neill’s film credits include TELSTAR (2008) in which he played the lead role opposite Kevin Spacey and Pam Ferris, WHAT’S YOUR NAME 41? (2005), THE LAST SEDUCTION II (1999) and BEDROOMS AND HALLWAYS (1998).
Television credits include CRIMINAL JUSTICE, WAKING THE DEAD, CIDER WITH ROSIE, HEARTBEAT, PEAK PRACTICE, WYCLIFFE, SOLDIER SOLDIER, INSPECTOR MORSE, CASUALTY and PIE IN THE SKY. O’Neil also had a starring role in the West End and Broadway stage hit BLOOD BROTHERS.
